Fresh Violence Erupts Along IT Road in Kangpokpi; KZVV Twilang Lhang Calls for Enhanced Security Action

A fresh incident of violence was reported along the IT Road in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district after a group of armed men, associated with the NSCN-IM, attacked Kuki farmers at Wakotphai village on Wednesday morning.

According to information received, the farmers were staying overnight at a temporary hut in their paddy field near Naibet when the attack took place at around 9:20 a.m. An exchange of fire was subsequently reported between the attackers and Village Volunteers.

The KZVV Twilang Lhang alleged that a combined group of Tangkhul-Liangmei Naga militants, led by the NSCN-IM, was involved in the attack.

The incident has raised concern in the IT Road area, which has remained relatively peaceful despite the wider conflict in Manipur. Locals fear that the incident could undermine the fragile peace and normalcy maintained by communities in the area.

In a statement, the KZVV Twilang Lhang condemned the reported attack, particularly the targeting of farmers and civilians, and described it as a serious provocation at a time when the Kuki community along the IT Road has been advocating dialogue, reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.

The KZVV demanded that authorities immediately identify and arrest those responsible, conduct a transparent and impartial investigation, and issue a clear public statement regarding the incident and those responsible.

It also called for enhanced security for farmers and civilians along the IT Road and immediate measures to prevent further escalation.

The KZVV Twilang Lhang warned that continued inaction or failure to hold those responsible accountable could further deteriorate the law-and-order situation in the area.

“Peace cannot be sustained when attacks on innocent civilians go unanswered,” the KZVV said, reiterating that its objective remains the protection of civilians, restoration of normalcy and peaceful coexistence along the IT Road.

The KZVV urged the government and concerned authorities to act swiftly, firmly and impartially to prevent the incident from developing into a larger confrontation.
