The District Agriculture Office, Churachandpur district, distributed 45 kilograms of urea and 5 kilograms of bio-fertilizer (Oorja) at a subsidised rate to registered farmers in the district on Monday.

The distribution began around 11 a.m., but farmers had gathered at the Agriculture Office since early morning.

Only 500 bags each of urea and bio-fertilizer were distributed for the day, leaving many farmers disappointed. However, District Agricultural Officer Sutthianlal explained the situation regarding the stock available with the office and convinced the farmers to wait for the arrival of the next consignment.

District Agricultural Officer Sutthianlal said, “Today, we started distributing urea and bio-fertilizer (Oorja) that has been allocated to our district. We are planning to distribute it when the allocation is a bit more. We have only 500 bags each of urea and bio-fertilizer. Considering the requests of the farmers, we have distributed whatever stock we have today.”

For farmers who could not get the fertilizers today, the District Agricultural Officer informed them that the distribution would continue once the next allocation arrives. He requested the farmers to wait for the arrival of the new allocation.

The District Agricultural Officer also informed that the unavailability of fertilizer stock in the district was mainly due to the floods in Assam and difficulties in transporting the fertilizers to the hill areas of the State.

He expressed hope that more fertilizer would be allocated in the future so that adequate quantities could be made available to farmers in the district.
