Deputy CM Dikho says situation in Taphou area under control

Dikho expressed hope that the situation in the area would remain peaceful.

The Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Losii Dikho has informed that the situation in the Taphou area of Senapati district is under control and that security personnel have been deployed in the area.

Dikho made the statement after landing at Imphal airport from Mumbai on Tuesday. Replying to media queries following the reported incident of arson in the area on Monday, the Deputy Chief Minister said people in the area were also making efforts to prevent further violence, as they were no longer interested in violence.

Dikho expressed hope that the situation in the area would remain peaceful.

On the demand for updating the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the Census exercise, the Deputy Chief Minister said he personally supported the demand, adding that updating the NRC is a must.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh left Imphal for New Delhi on Tuesday afternoon following a call from the Centre, amid continuing agitation in the state demanding the updation of the National Register of Citizens (NRC) before the Census exercise.
