He was accorded a grand reception by the Congress leadership.

The joining programme also marked the home-coming of Dr. Chaltolen Amo to the Congress party.

Speaking on the occasion, the leaders warmly welcomed D.P. Haokip and Dr. Chaltolen Amo, stating that their joining will strengthen the Congress party in Churachandpur district and in the 59-Saikot (ST) Assembly Constituency in particular.

D.P. Haokip, a retired Indian Revenue Service officer, is known for his clean image, discipline and long service to the nation. His joining the Congress is being seen as the beginning of a new chapter of honest, people-centric leadership for Saikot.

Later in the day, the Manipur Congress leaders also met Rahul Gandhi ji, MP, Leader of Opposition (LoP), Lok Sabha and Mallikarjun Kharge ji, President, AICC, at New Delhi.

The meeting with the national leadership is understood to have discussed the political situation in Manipur, strengthening of the party organisation, and the road ahead for the 13th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election 2027.

The day's events have created great enthusiasm among Congress workers and supporters of Saikot, who see the joining of D.P. Haokip as a turning point for the constituency.
