In a significant outreach aimed at bridging the healthcare gap in Manipur's remote hill region, the 112 Battalion of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), in collaboration with the Kangpokpi District Health Society under the National Health Mission (NHM), organised a comprehensive day-long medical camp at T. Waichong village along the IT Road on Sunday, benefiting around 250 villagers from far-flung areas.
The initiative brought specialist healthcare services to one of the district's underserved regions, where residents often face severe challenges in accessing timely medical treatment due to poor road connectivity and limited health infrastructure.
A six-member team of doctors, including specialists from the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS), led the camp. The medical team included Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kangpokpi Dr. Paokai Kipgen, District Hospital Kangpokpi Medical Superintendent Dr. Pilhing Misao, Medical Officer-in-Charge of PHC Waichong Dr. Jangkhogin Kipgen, along with 112 BN CRPF doctors Dr. Umashankar Verma (CMO-SG) and Dr. Durgesh Dhote (Assistant Commandant/Medical Officer), supported by nursing and paramedical staff.
Villagers from T. Waichong and neighbouring settlements underwent medical examinations, consultations and treatment, while essential medicines were distributed free of cost.
Officials said the camp was organised to ensure that quality healthcare reaches vulnerable communities living in geographically isolated areas, where access to basic medical services remains a persistent challenge. By taking diagnostic and clinical services directly to the villages, the joint initiative sought to address the healthcare needs of underprivileged residents who are often deprived of regular medical attention.
The villagers expressed appreciation to the CRPF and the Kangpokpi District Health Society for organising the outreach programme, stating that the initiative provided timely medical assistance and brought much-needed healthcare services to their doorstep.
