Church youths step up to spread traffic awareness in district

Extending support to the initiatives taken by the District Traffic Control Police to regulate traffic in the district, youths from the Baptist Youth Fellowship, Evangelical Baptist Convention, Hiangtam Lamka, took up a peaceful initiative to raise awareness about traffic rules and regulations.

The youths were divided into different groups and gathered near the traffic point in front of Churachandpur Police Station. They were seen holding placards displaying various traffic rules and regulations.

They also distributed flyers and bookmarks on traffic rules. As a sign of encouragement, they cheered two-wheeler riders who were seen wearing helmets and obeying traffic rules.

Speaking to the media, one of the youths, Dalsonlian, said, “Today, we are organising a road safety and road peace initiative called ‘Lamlen Etna Buldum’. As the name suggests, it is a peaceful initiative. We are not in any way dictating rules or regulations to the Traffic Department. We are simply highlighting the Christian values of compassion, empathy and unconditional love, hoping that the people of this town will emulate those values and safely follow traffic rules and regulations.”

“Rules and regulations have been imposed, and penalties have also been introduced in the town. Several safety initiatives have been taken by the transport authorities. While we acknowledge the steps taken by them, changes are yet to be seen in this town. So, we have a firm conviction that in a Christian-majority town, only through Christian values can we see traffic that is more peaceful and safer for everyone,” he added.

Regarding their activities, Dalsonlian said that the youths were divided into groups, with some holding placards displaying messages such as “Do not drink and drive” and “No underage driving”. Others were in charge of distributing bookmarks.

As a way of rewarding those who follow traffic rules and regulations, the youths also gave them bookmarks and flyers carrying the message, “Jesus loves us all”, along with traffic rules and regulations printed on the back.
