Churachandpur Traffic Police to Install PVC Traffic Poles as Road Dividers to Ease Emerging Traffic Congestion

Churachandpur Traffic Police will install PVC traffic poles, or traffic spring cones, as road dividers at traffic congestion hotspots in the district to ease the growing traffic congestion.

The PVC poles or traffic spring cones will be installed later on Wednesday night when there is less vehicular movement. According to the police, the cones will be installed from Forest Gate, Tuibong, to Kamdouveng Crossing; from Kamdouveng Crossing to Ideal Nursing Home Crossing; at Bijang Crossing; from Old Bazaar to Rengkai Road Crossing; at St. Paul School Road Crossing; at Damkam Bazaar; and at Hebron/Dorcas Road Crossing.

Briefing media persons on the new initiatives of the district police, Superintendent of Police Gaurav Dogra said lane driving would help ease traffic congestion in some areas. Along with the installation of PVC poles, the SP said no-parking zones would also be notified, along with other measures, in the days to come.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Augustine Khongsai said traffic congestion had increased in the district since the conflict began in 2023, after displaced people from other districts started moving into Churachandpur district.

Besides non-compliance with traffic rules, the absence of ring roads or adequate bypass roads, a lack of social consciousness among road users, and inadequate planning were some other factors causing traffic congestion, Augustine said.

Traffic Control Police In-charge Marlys said, “Since we have faced so many problems regarding traffic congestion, we are planning to put up cones as road dividers, if possible, starting tonight. It is my appeal to the public to take care of the cones.

Regarding underage driving, Marlys appealed to parents to keep an eye on their children and ensure that they do not drive vehicles. He also appealed to schools and colleges not to allow underage students to drive vehicles or take vehicles to school.

“We will be conducting checks on underage driving, and if any underage child is found driving a vehicle, their parents will be called to the Traffic Office. The parents will be held liable, and we will take action according to the law,” said Marlys.
