Churachandpur Police Organise ‘10K Run for Unity’ with More Than 2,500 Participants

The ‘10K Run for Unity’, organised by the Churachandpur district police on Saturday, concluded successfully with more than 2,500 participants taking part in the event.

The run began at Forest Gate Traffic Point in Tuibong and passed through different parts of the district before concluding at Peace Ground.

People from different walks of life participated in the run.

Speaking to the media, Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations), Churachandpur, Augustine Khongsai, said the Churachandpur Police organised the run as part of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. He said the motive behind the run was to spread social and public awareness about drugs and their ill effects.

“We also seek public support on this front so that, in the days to come, we will be able to achieve our goal of reducing the ill effects of drugs,” said Augustine.

While thanking everyone who participated in the run, the Additional Superintendent of Police said more than 2,500 participants turned up for the event, which he described as “very exciting”.

Augustine said, “We are very glad, and we express our happiness to all stakeholders who have been part of the event, including the media fraternity and other organisations.”

The oldest participant in the run was 63-year-old John Roulngul, a retired IFS officer from Sielmat village in the district.

John said, “I have been running for about 20 years, so I have participated in many races, and this is one of them. I am very happy to be the oldest participant in this race.”

John congratulated the Churachandpur Police for organising the run and added that it should be organised every year.

“It is great to see all the youths coming out today. I believe there will be more than 3,000 participants, which is great. Because in a place like Churachandpur, with all these problems, you have very little outlet for the youth. We do not really have any entertainment or anything,” said John.

“So, this kind of programme should be organised more often, not only by the police but also by other departments and private companies,” said John.

The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificates, while the top 200 participants were also awarded commemorative medals along with participation certificates.
