Chief Secretary instructs ZEO Kpi to explore possibilities with private schools to offer fee concessions for displaced students

Manipur Chief Secretary Rajeev Singh Thakur on Wednesday instructed Zonal Education Officer Kangpokpi to explore possibilities with private schools to offer fee concessions for displaced students.

Rajeev Singh visited Kangpokpi district on Wednesday and conducted a comprehensive review meeting at the Conference Hall of the Deputy Commissioner’s Complex.

The visit was aimed at evaluating the implementation of ongoing government schemes, development programmes, and welfare measures across the district.

During an interactive session with District Level Officers (DLOs), the Deputy Commissioner Kangpokpi Hemant Kumar briefed the Chief Secretary on key initiatives undertaken for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs).

The brief detailed the total number of IDPs currently residing in the district, their areas of origin, current resettlement statistics, and the ongoing implementation of sustainable livelihood programmes.

Enquiring into specific welfare measures, Rajeev Singh assessed the regular disbursement of benefits under Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), the special PMAY-G housing schemes, and farmer compensation packages intended for displaced agricultural workers unable to cultivate their lands.

He commended the district administration for introducing the Black Rice cultivation initiative for IDPs—noting its successful commercial distribution outside the state—and directed officers to expand the programme to cover non-IDP local farmers as well.

Additionally, the Chief Secretary instructed the Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) to explore possibilities with private schools to offer fee concessions for displaced students.

The review also addressed vital administrative and operational challenges, including supply chain constraints affecting essential commodity distribution along key routes such as Kangchup, T. Waichong, and Leimakhong.

Assuring prompt resolution, the Chief Secretary assured state-level intervention to resolve these supply issues, as well as operational bottlenecks presented by departmental heads in healthcare, education, and other key sectors.

Following the meeting, the chief secretary visited the prefabricated relief shelter at Ngahmun under the Champhai Sub-Division. During his interaction with the camp's displaced residents, Rajeev distributed stationery kits and sports materials to the children and youth staying at the facility.
