The bodies of two Kuki youths - Thangginlun Chongloi (21) and Paoginlal Hangsing (20)—who went missing from Taphou Kuki village on October 28 amid allegations of abduction by the NSCN-IM, were recovered early this morning during a joint security search operation along the Senapati-Phaibung (SP) Road stretch, local sources reported.

According to reports, the joint security teams, alongside the Kangpokpi District Superintendent of Police (SP) and Central Forces (CF), transported the remains back to Kanggui during the early hours of the morning. However, the condition in which the bodies were returned—secured inside plastic bags—has deeply affected local sentiments, leading to intense public grief and anger at the site.

In response, the Kangpokpi District Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) have taken a firm stance, refusing to unload or claim the remains from the vehicle until the perpetrators responsible for the killings are formally arrested and held accountable.

Following a brief standoff and negotiations at the scene, the District SP departed the location, leaving the vehicle containing the remains behind as CSOs maintained their protest.

Meanwhile, security forces have intensified patrolling and combing operations across the Taphou and Senapati-Kangpokpi border areas to maintain law and order.

CoTU’s Five-Point Charter of Demands
1. Remove Mao MLA Losii Dikho from the post of Deputy Chief Minister.
2. Transfer Taphou Kuki Village, which currently falls under the jurisdiction of Senapati SP, to the jurisdiction of Kangpokpi SP.
3. Immediately withdraw all NSCN-IM camps located within Senapati district.
4. Hand over the case concerning the killing of two Kuki youths to the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
5. Immediately arrest the culprits. Until then, the bodies of the deceased will not be claimed.
