
Ariang(Khunkho) naga village authority has clarified that the village and its residents have no involvement whatsoever in the disappearance of Hemjang Haokip from Khukho Kuki village.
The village authority stated that the two villages have maintained peaceful and cordial relations for many decades.
In a release on Sunday, the village authority expresses deep sadness over the reported missing case of Hemjang Haokip and stated that the authority stand in solidarity with Hemjang's family and share in their grief and anxiety during this difficult time.
“Our two villages have maintained peaceful and cordial relations for many decades. In this regard, we would like to make it clear that our village and its residents have no involvement whatsoever in the disappearance of Pu Hemjang Haokip” the village authority stated.
Stating that that they have some information of certain suspicions and allegations reportedly raised by a few individuals concerning the village, the village authority appealed that such unverified suspicion or allegations against the village and its residents be avoided and brought to an immediate halt, as they may create unnecessary distrust and tension between communities that have long lived peacefully alongside one another.
The release stated that Khukho Naga village is a peace-loving community situated in close proximity to the Army cantonment. Furthermore, following the unfortunate incident at a few Naga villages, the village authority had imposed movement restrictions on villagers with effect from 14 August, as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety and security of the community.
Acknowledging and sharing the grief and concern of the family of Hemjang Haokip the village authority stated that any act of abduction or disappearance of civilians is deeply distressing and should never be encouraged or tolerated.
Khunkho Naga village authority also appealed to all concerned to maintain peace, avoid speculation and unverified allegations, and support efforts to ascertain the whereabouts of the missing person.
