ANSAM Directs Nagas to Abstain from India’s Independence Day Celebrations; SDSA Endorses Directive

The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), has directed all Naga students, youths and the Naga populace to abstain from attending or participating in the August 15 celebration of India’s Independence Day.

“All Naga Students, Youths and Naga Populace should abstain from attending/participating in the 15th August Celebration of India Independence Day for the betrayal of the August 3, 2015 Framework Agreement, militarisation—flooding of Indian Armed Forces under imposed AFSPA against Nagas in Naga areas, divide-and-rule sinister policies fragmenting the Nagas, suppressing the rights of Nagas and denial of delivering justice to various human rights violations and crimes committed against the Nagas by the Government of India,” ANSAM stated in a directive issued on August 11.

ANSAM also directed all educational institutions and offices, both government and non-government, within Naga areas to declare a holiday on August 14 to commemorate the 80th Naga Independence Day.

ANSAM stated that the directive was issued in accordance with the resolutions adopted at the 3rd Legislative Assembly Session of ANSAM held on August 10, 2026.

The student body also directed its constituent and subordinate units to hoist the Naga National Flag at their respective Okings on August 14 in commemoration of the 80th Naga Independence Day.

ANSAM requested the leaders of its constituent and subordinate units to strictly enforce the directive within their respective jurisdictions.

Endorsing the ANSAM directive, the Senapati District Students’ Association (SDSA) directed the Naga populace, particularly educational institutions and youths, to abstain from participating in the upcoming Indian Independence Day celebrations.

In commemoration of the 80th Naga Independence Day, the SDSA office will organise a “Naga Flag March” on August 14, 2026, under the aegis of ANSAM, the SDSA stated.

The association also directed all educational institutions and offices, both government and non-government, within Senapati district to remain closed on August 14.
