Speaking to the media before making the announcement, Dr. Thangkhankhup Guite said, “I wish to declare that I have decided to contest the upcoming Manipur Assembly election from the 56-Thanlon Assembly constituency.
“As a person with a medical background, I feel I will be able to help people in the remotest areas of the constituency who have been unable to access proper healthcare. My main priorities for development will be healthcare, roads and communication, education, water supply, economic progress, and equitable development.”
He also sought the support and prayers of the public. When asked which political party he would contest the election under, the prospective candidate said he had not yet made a decision regarding his political affiliation.
During the declaration, the prospective candidate said he would treat all tribes equally and strive to ensure equitable development and equal treatment for everyone.
Stating that he admired his father's qualities, particularly his honesty and refusal to make false promises, Thangkhankhup said he would also strive to uphold the same principles in serving the people of the constituency.
He further appealed to the people to extend their guidance and support for the development of the Thanlon Assembly constituency and the restoration of peace.
