
Assam Rifles on Saturday felicitated 29 girls in Churachandpur district following their selection for employment with Marriott Hotel under Project ‘PRANITA’.
Brigadier 27 Sector Assam Rifle S. Prashant, civil society organisations, local leaders and officials from Marriott Hotel and Assam Rifles were present in the felicitation.
Speaking to media, Sanjay Gupta head of Marriot World Wide Business Council said Project PRANITA is initiated from Marriot International and this is three year old initiative where we take girls from under privilege societies from NGO and different other places.
Sanjay said, “ We enroll them as an intern in our hotel and kept them in a status of intern and we enroll them to Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, where they get a sponsored programme which is called bachelors of hospitality and tourism. That is sponsored by Marriot hotels where the girls stays with us, work with us and we educate them and we make them absolutely competent after three years to join any hotel”.
Informing that Marriot Hotel is the largest hotel chain in the world, Sanjay said they want to make the girls ready for their hotels and the entire hospitality industry. He also informed that Marriot Hotel have already took about 43 girls from Churachandpur in 2026 and they are working in different hotels.
This year, he said, they will be taking about 63 girls to provide quality education, accommodation and hospitality career under Marriot Hotel.
Sanjay said “some of the special character traits of girls from northeast which I personally find is they are always smiling, this is the first thing we required in the our industry. They have excellent communication skills and excellent command in English which is the second thing we want in our industry. They have the right attitude to work. I think they are genuinely made for the hospitality industry. We find them to be very hard working”.
One of the girl, Jasmine said,” we are so happy and grateful to be selected for the interview. This is more than an opportunity, it is a step towards brighter future”.
Another girl jenny Chingneilam said, “ I am very thankful for the Assam riles for organising these. It also creates and opportunity for tribal girls likes us since we do not receive any opportunities like this.”
As per Assam Rifles, they facilitated online interviews with Marriott Hotel at Battalion Headquarters, Khuga, on 25 and 27 August 2026. A total of 29 candidates appeared for the interviews, and all 29 candidates were subsequently selected.
