Manipur Lost Over Rs 1,200 Crore in GST Revenue Due to Conflict: Khemchand

The Chief Minister of Manipur Yumnam Khemchand Singh said that the prolonged conflict in the State had resulted in a decline of more than Rs. 1,200 crores in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue from 2023 to 2026.

The Chief Minister made the statement while speaking at the 52nd Foundation Day celebration of the All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) at the Manipur Press Club, Imphal on Wednesday.

Khemchand said the decline in Goods and Services Tax (GST) revenue has put considerable pressure on state economy.

"As, from time to time, the government is running on grants, it is a little difficult for us to do much more", Khemchand added.

But the pension scheme for journalists, which is currently Rs. 8,000, will be increased by Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 10,000. 

For the family pension scheme, the amount of Rs. 5,000 will also be increased by Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 7,000.

The chief minister said he have  already sent the signed documents regarding the scheme and it will be passed by the Cabinet.

The chief minister  paid floral tribute at the AMWJU Memorial Stone in remembrance of journalists who had passed away and felicitated the former office bearers.
