Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Monday said the government is working towards making Mizoram a winter destination of national importance.

The Chief Minister chaired a meeting of the Winter Festival 2026 Organising Committee at the P&PI Conference Hall in Aizawl on Monday, where preparations for the upcoming festival were discussed.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister described the Winter Festival as one of the government’s most visible initiatives to make the state a winter destination. Stating that the festival should go beyond entertainment and cultural programmes, the Chief Minister said it should become a platform through which Mizoram’s tourism potential, local products and entrepreneurship can reach visitors from across India and beyond.

Though the festival is led by the state’s Tourism Department, the Chief Minister stressed the need for participation from different government departments for the successful conduct of the festival. He urged various government departments to work together so that their programmes and initiatives could be integrated into the festival.

For the festival, Rs 60 lakh has been earmarked, while the government is seeking Rs 3 crore from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER).
