Kailenjang Village Chief Condemns Brazen Attack, Demands Arrest of Perpetrators Within 24 Hours

The Kailenjang Village Authority has issued a stern 24-hour ultimatum to the Manipur government to identify and arrest those responsible for the alleged armed attack and arson that left three civilian houses in the Kuki village reduced to ashes in broad daylight, demanding immediate security reinforcement and compensation for the victims.

The Village Authority strongly condemned the August 10 attack, which it said was carried out around 12:30 pm by suspected Naga miscreants dressed in black and armed with sophisticated firearms.

According to the village body, the armed men entered Kailenjang and unleashed terror among villagers before setting three houses ablaze.

The gutted houses belonged to Village Chief Lhingjahoi Chongloi and villagers Kamkhohao Chongloi and Helthang Haokip, it said.

The Village Authority alleged that the attackers spoke both Naga and Manipuri languages during the incident, and described the assault as a “direct attack” on the safety, dignity and existence of the civilian population.

“Destruction of civilian homes in broad daylight is not merely an act of arson—it is a direct assault on the safety, dignity and existence of our people,” the Village Authority said in a statement.

It warned that violence against an unarmed village could not be normalised and demanded that those responsible be brought to justice without delay.

The first and most urgent demand is an immediate augmentation of the existing security deployment in and around Kailenjang, with the government being urged to ensure adequate protection for villagers and their properties.

The Village Authority also demanded that the suspected perpetrators be identified and arrested within 24 hours, insisting that the investigation be impartial, transparent and followed by prosecution under law.

It further demanded immediate reconstruction of the three destroyed houses and full and appropriate compensation to the affected families for their homes, household belongings and essential documents lost in the blaze.

Calling for concrete preventive measures, the village body said repeated condemnation after attacks was no longer enough and warned that authorities must act decisively to prevent a recurrence.

“The people of Kailenjang demand justice, security and accountability—not promises after another tragedy occurs,” it said.

The Village Authority urged the government, security agencies and civil administration to treat the incident as a grave security warning and act swiftly before the situation deteriorates further.

The latest incident has once again underscored the vulnerability of remote civilian settlements in the region, where the security of villagers remains a major concern amid continuing tensions and armed violence.
