In light of recent attempts to form a popular government in Manipur, Zomi Students' Federation - General Headquarters (ZSF-GHQ) has expressed its opposition to the formation of a popular government and urged all to refrain from attempts to form the popular government.
Declaring its support to the continuation of the President’s Rule, ZSF stated that they will stand against any attempts to form a popular government which they said will effectively hand over power and control over the state machinery to the majority community.
In a release issued on Friday, ZSF stated that “the imposition of President's Rule (PR), in so far as it led to the dismissal of the grossly communal N. Biren Singh led Government has been one of the few positive developments in recent times”.
Stating that small yet positive developments have been witnessed during PR and the overall atmosphere of violence against the Kuki Zo people curtailed to a large extent, ZSF added that the fact that violence has subsided must not be interpreted as the overall restoration of normalcy.
“On the other hand, we remind all of the fragile state of peace in the state and how our people are still vulnerable to ethnic cleansing by the majority community. While we struggle for justice: the arrest of those responsible and involved in the ethnic cleansing; a solution for the properties and institutions we have lost, the news regarding the attempts to form a popular government is a poor attempt to divert attention; to project a semblance of normalcy and an attempt to skip responsibility for the deliverance of justice” ZSF added.
ZSF made an appealed that during the President Rule, every attempt is made to secure a lasting political solution and a safe and separate Politico-Administrative system completely separate from the based in Imphal.
