Other than the three Kuki-Zo MLAs who participated in Manipur Government formation, the other seven MLAs do not betray the will and aspirations of their people, said Paolienlal Haokip MLA, Saikot Assembly Constituency.
Speaking to The Hills Journal after a reception program at B. Vengnom, Churchandpur, Haokip said, "With regard to the standpoint of 7 Kuki-Zo MLAs, other than the three MLAs, I don't think they betray the wishes of the people and they are standing by the resolution that the community had taken".
On being asked their future course of action since they have not resign as MLAs, Paolienlal said, "Being a part of government and being a part of the legislature are two different things. As an MLA, you represent wishes of the people but if you are a part of the government and hold some position, then you are sworn to secrecy to solve the agenda of the government."
"Legislature can always question the policies of the government and that is why we have been elected to represent the people," he added.
Questions on whether they will resign as Members of Legislative Assembly, Paolenlal responded that they would deliberate the matter and if it was going to serve the purpose of the people's aspirations, they are open to that idea.
