Warnings Ignored, Violence Repeated: Mongkot Chepu VA Blames Administrative Inaction for Prolonged Unrest

Serious questions are being raised over an alleged failure of timely administrative action after Mongkot Chepu village came under a fresh armed attack on Monday, leaving at least one civilian injured.

The incident is being viewed not merely as a security lapse but as a consequence of prolonged delay and alleged indifference on the part of authorities, the Mongkot Chepu Village Authority (VA) said in a statement.

The VA claimed that warning signs had been evident for weeks. “For over six weeks, repeated alerts were issued regarding the construction and expansion of militant bunkers in and around the village,” it said, adding that residents had urged authorities to intervene before the situation escalated, but no concrete steps were taken.

The delay has now had “grave consequences”, the statement alleged.

According to the VA, at around 7:30 am, militants launched a coordinated attack on the village, allegedly using drone-delivered explosives. “The threat that had been flagged repeatedly has now materialised,” it said, adding that the use of such tactics pointed to a situation that was allowed to escalate unchecked despite prior warnings.

Raising questions over the response, the VA said known militant positions were left intact for over a month despite “credible inputs”. “Why were preventive measures not enforced? These questions demand urgent answers,” it added.

The Authority also alleged disparity in the response during and after the attack. It claimed that while efforts were made to evacuate injured militants from the bunkers, no immediate assistance was extended to the injured civilian. These claims, however, remain unverified.

Further, the VA alleged that militant activity had been taking place in close proximity to Litan Police Station, raising concerns over surveillance and preparedness of local security agencies.

“The incident is not merely one of violence, but of missed opportunities to act, prevent and protect,” the statement said, describing the attack as a “preventable crisis”.

Community leaders have demanded immediate dismantling of militant bunkers, enhanced security deployment and a transparent probe into the alleged administrative lapses.

As tension prevails in the area, the focus has now shifted to accountability. The VA said responsibility must be fixed for the delay in action that, it claimed, contributed to the attack.
