The transportation of petrol and diesel from Malom Oil Depot, Imphal, to four hill districts - Churachandpur, Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, and Senapati, has resumed under strict security after a gap of about two years.
Owing to the conflict in Manipur, the transportation of fuel from the Malom Oil Depot to these four districts had either been avoided or made impossible due to the law and order situation. However, with the situation seemingly improving, it is learnt that the Malom Depot began transporting diesel and petrol to the four districts starting from May, 2025.
Over the past two years, petrol and diesel, especially for Churachandpur district, were transported from Assam and Mizoram via Guite Road. Many oil stations often remained closed.
Though petrol and diesel were available in various shops and from roadside vendors, the prices were significantly higher compared to those at official oil stations.
Moreover, many people raised concerns about the quality of fuel sold by shops and vendors outside the authorized stations.
However, with law and order improving and oil stations gradually resuming regular services, the woes of the people have significantly decreased.
