Student bodies in Churachandpur announce closure of business establishment, schools and office on February 24

Body of Vungzagin Valte reached Aizawl on Sunday evening and was brought to Churachandpur district through land route. The body is expected to reach the town on late Monday midnight.

Kuki Students Organsiation Churachandpur and Zomi Students Federation has announced for closure of business establishment, schools and office in Churachandpur district of Manipur on Tuesday as a mark of respect to Thanglon MLA Vungzagin Valte who passed away on Saturday.

However, exemption shall be granted to students appearing in their Board, Council and other Examinations, who are required to carry their admit cards, and to all emergency services.

Body of Vungzagin Valte reached Aizawl on Sunday evening and was brought to Churachandpur district through land route. The body is expected to reach the town on late Monday midnight.

Paying highest tribute and homage to Vungzagin Valte,KSO Ccpur stated that Valte will always be remembered not only as a committed and dedicated public servant, but also as a victim of the ethnic violence and targeted campaign against the Kuki-Zo people by the radical Meiteis on 4th May, 2023.
“His sacrifice stands as a painful reminder of the suffering endured by our people.He was a strong voice for justice, dignity and democratic values, and a symbol of the political movement and aspirations of the people” KSO added.
To express sincere respect and collective grief, the organisation hereby calls for a district-wide mouming for 24 (twenty-four) hours, starting from 6 in the morning on February 24 as his mortal remains will reach Churachandpur district stated the release.
KSO requested that during the 24 hours all business establishments, educational institutions and offices be close as a sign of respect to the departed soul and further requested the public to participate in receiving the mortal remains of our beloved elected representative, which is expected to arrive at Lamka tomorrow.
The release stated that exemption shall be granted to students appearing in their Board, Council and other Examinations, who are required to carry their admit cards, and to all emergency services.
As per direction from the Zomi Council (ZC) regarding the demise of Vungzagin Valte, a 24 hour Closure of all business establishments, educational institutions and offices (public & private) starting at 6 in the morning is hereby declared for February 24 says Zomi Students Federation in a separate release.

While urging all to cooperate in observing the closure, ZSF also request all to participate in receiving the mortal remains of our Vungzagin Valte . Furthermore, the student body requested all to hang Black Flags in front of their respective homes as a homage to the departed.

“Exemption will be given to all students appearing for their Board and Council Exams who are directed to carry their Admit Cards with them. Furthermore, all other Essential Services will be exempted” stated the release.
