SoO Groups Pledge Loyalty to People’s Aspiration, Reaffirms Union Territory Stand

The Kuki-Zo Suspension of Operation (SoO) groups under the banners of the United People’s Front (UPF) and the Kuki National Organisation (KNO), which recently inked a one-year extension of the SoO agreement with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), have pledged unwavering loyalty to the people’s aspiration, vowing never to deviate from their commitment without prior consultation with the community.

The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU) welcomed the Centre’s extension of the SoO pact, calling the renewed pledge by the groups a “significant and leaping step toward achieving the people’s aspiration for a Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory with Legislature.”

In a decisive show of unity, CoTU reaffirmed the Kuki-Zo community’s uncompromising stand for Separate Administration during a public meeting held in Kangpokpi, following the September 3–4 tripartite talks between the MHA, KNO, UPF, and the Kuki Zo Council (KZC).

The meeting came amid lingering apprehensions over the agreement’s wording, which commits to a “negotiated political settlement for the Kuki-Zo community in a time-bound manner.” To dispel doubts and consolidate the stand, CoTU convened a mass public consultation, resulting in the adoption of two key resolutions.

Two Resolutions Adopted

1. Steadfast Commitment: UPF and KNO leaders reaffirmed their resolve to uphold the aspiration for Separate Administration in the form of Union Territory under Article 239A of the Indian Constitution, assuring that no decision will be taken without public consultation.
2. Endorsement of 8-Point Resolution: The community resolved to abide by the historic 8-Point Resolution adopted on March 3, 2025, during the 22nd Remembrance Day at Martyrs’ Cemetery, Phaijang, further cementing their long-standing political aspiration.

With these resolutions, the Kuki-Zo community has sent an unmistakable message to both New Delhi and Imphal: the demand for Separate Administration is non-negotiable and firmly rooted in the collective will of the people.
