At a time when fear and uncertainty have gripped families displaced by the recent violence in Litan–Sareikhong, Saikul MLA Kimneo stepped forward with a message of reassurance, solidarity, and hope. Taking an active part in efforts to defuse tensions and promote dialogue among community leaders and stakeholders, the legislator also personally visited relief camps in Lhungtin and Saikul, where she met affected families and listened to their concerns. Her presence and engagement offered a rare moment of comfort to those struggling with displacement, underscoring a renewed push toward peace and reconciliation in the troubled region.

More than forty houses were torched in violence reportedly triggered by a drunken brawl in Ukhrul’s Litan–Sareikhong, displacing thousands of people from both communities. An indefinite curfew has been imposed, and internet services have been suspended in Lhungtin Sub-Division of Kangpokpi District and Phungyar Sub-Division of Kamjong District.

In the aftermath of the unfortunate tensions and distressing incidents at Litan–Sareikhong, Saikul MLA Kimneo has taken proactive steps to promote dialogue, restore calm, and extend direct support to families displaced by the violence.

Demonstrating both political responsibility and humanitarian concern, the legislator joined hands with concerned leaders and key stakeholders to facilitate dialogue and mutual understanding between the affected communities.

Sources close to the discussions stated that her intervention was aimed at preventing further escalation and creating space for reconciliation through constructive engagement.

Amid the prevailing uncertainty, MLA Kimneo also personally visited four relief camps located in Lhungtin and Saikul, accompanied by Saikul-based civil society organisations (CSOs). During the visits, she interacted closely with displaced families, listened to their grievances, and assessed their immediate needs.

KSO Saikul has recorded as many as 850 Kuki-Zo displaced persons who fled from Yaolen, Patleijao, Litan–Sareikhong, Mongkot Chepu, Zalenbung, Sangkai, Songphel Mulam, Chassad, Molnom, Lamlai Chingphei, and Urangpat as of February 11.

The displaced Kuki-Zo families have been sheltered in various relief camps at Lhungtin, Saikul, and other villages under the aegis of Kuki Inpi Saikul Gamkai.

The MLA’s visit has been considered a morale-boosting moment for camp inmates, many of whom have been grappling with trauma, displacement, and loss. The MLA reportedly assured the affected families that sustained efforts are underway to ensure their safety, rehabilitation, and eventual return under secure conditions.

Engaging in detailed discussions with community representatives and CSO leaders, Kimneo emphasized the urgent need for restraint, unity, and collective responsibility in restoring peace in the region. She reiterated her commitment to pursuing all possible avenues—both administrative and community-driven—to secure a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

The Saikul MLA’s outreach comes at a critical juncture when tensions remain sensitive, and her on-ground engagement signals a focused attempt to bridge divides and reinforce confidence among displaced residents.

Community leaders present during the visit acknowledged the importance of collaborative dialogue and welcomed the initiative as a constructive step toward de-escalation and long-term stability.

As relief efforts continue, stakeholders expressed hope that sustained political will and community cooperation will pave the way for lasting peace in Litan–Sareikhong and surrounding areas.
