The Rongmei Naga People’s Organisation (RNPO) has appealed to the NSCN-IM and Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) to shun violence in all Rongmei-inhabited areas of Assam, Manipur, Nagaland, and elsewhere.

The appeal from RNPO follows an exchange of gunfire at Taodaijang (Buangruangh) on Wednesday, although there were no reported casualties on either side or among the public.

In its statement, the RNPO noted that the Zeliangrongpui people—especially the Zeme, Liangmai, Rongmei, and Inpui communities—have been preparing to pay their respects and honor their martyr, Haipou Jadonang (Founder of Naga Raj), on his 94th Martyrdom Day on August 29, 2025. It added that both NSCN-IM and ZUF have also been preparing to observe the occasion.

“It is unfortunate that cadres belonging to NSCN-IM and ZUF exchanged gunfire at Taodaijang (Buangruangh) this morning. However, it has been reported that there were no casualties on either side or among the public,” the release stated.

Further, the RNPO urged both groups not to violate the ceasefire and cessation of operations ground rules, and appealed to both the NSCN-IM and ZUF to refrain from violence, especially at a time when the people are eagerly preparing to honor the founder of Naga Raj.
