Presidency College, Motbung Marks 53rd Foundation Day With Dignity, Culture And Vision For The Future

One of Manipur's oldest and most historic premier institutions of higher education, Presidency College, Motbung, in Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District, celebrated its 53rd Foundation Day on Friday, July 10, 2026, with a day-long programme of academic reflection, cultural pride and institutional celebration at the College Seminar Hall.

The event, organised by the College's Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), brought together distinguished dignitaries, faculty members, students, staff and alumni to commemorate more than five decades of excellence in higher education, nation-building, leadership and community service, while honouring the institution's proud journey since its establishment in 1973.

Thangkhokhon Haokip, MPS, Additional SP, Law & Order, Senapati, graced the event as the Chief Guest, while the college Principal, Dr. Sheikhohao Kipgen, presided over the function as the Functional President. Haopu Lhouvum, HOD, Department of History, and Dr. Harikrishna Shiwakoti, HOD, Department of Anthropology, attended as the Guests of Honour.

The event featured a rich blend of academic presentations, cultural performances and addresses by eminent personalities. The celebration spotlighted the college theme song, cultural diversity and the institution's achievements over the past year.

The programme began with the arrival of dignitaries and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address and presentation of the college's annual achievements by Dr. Hoipi Haokip, Coordinator, IQAC.

One of the most anticipated moments of the celebration was the dedication and official presentation of the Presidency College Theme Song. The dedication was led by Rev. Paothang Lhouvum, Principal of NTS, Motbung, while the theme song was performed by the College Choir under the leadership of Dr. Hatneilam Touthang.

Adding colour and vibrancy to the occasion, students showcased traditional Thadou and Nepali cultural dances, symbolising the institution's spirit of unity, diversity and cultural harmony.

The celebration also featured the Foundation Day Address by Haopu Lhouvum, the Principal's address by Dr. Sheikhohao Kipgen, and the keynote address by Chief Guest Thangkhokhon Haokip, highlighting the vital role of higher education in shaping future generations.

"Foundation Day is more than a celebration—it is a reaffirmation of our values, vision and responsibility to society," said Dr. Hoipi Haokip, Coordinator, IQAC.

Founded in 1973, Presidency College, Motbung has grown into a premier institution known for academic rigour, cultural vibrancy and leadership. The 53rd Foundation Day was both a celebration of its proud legacy and a renewed pledge to inspire future generations.

The Foundation Day also served not only as a tribute to its rich legacy but also as a renewed commitment to academic excellence, innovation, character building and nation-building.

With a legacy spanning more than five decades, Presidency College, Motbung continues to stand as a beacon of quality higher education in Manipur.
