Preparations in Full Swing for 134th Durand Cup 2025, Kick-Off on July 30 in Imphal

All preparations are underway for the grand kick-off of the 134th Durand Cup, 2025, slated to commence on July 30, 2025 at Khuman Lampak Main Stadium, Imphal. Jointly organised by the Indian Army and the Department of Youth Affairs & Sports (YAS), Government of Manipur, the tournament will continue till August 12, 2025.

Speaking to DIPR media team, Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh, MCS, Director of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Manipur, stated that the first chapter of the Durand Cup, 2025 holds special significance as it marks the first major sporting event in the state following the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and the ongoing crisis that erupted in May 2023. He asserted that the event aimed to reignite positivity, enthusiasm, and the spirit of sportsmanship among players and the people of the state.

He mentioned that six matches will be hosted during the tournament in Manipur, scheduled for July 30, August 1, 4, 7, 10, and the final match on August 12. He noted that four teams will compete in the Imphal leg of the tournament including Real Kashmir FC, Indian Navy Football Team from outside the state, and home teams NEROCA FC and TRAU FC. He maintained that extensive efforts have been made by the YAS Department, other line departments, and members of the Indian Army to ensure the grand success of the event. He further said that the Steering Committee led by the Chief Secretary, Organising Committee under the YAS Secretary, and 17 line sub-committees including traffic management, fire safety, and medical emergencies have also been constituted to ensure smooth conduct of the event.

Addressing the previous overcrowding issues, Dr. Mayengbam Veto Singh assured that comprehensive crowd management and safety measures are in place, stating that a colour-coded system will be implemented for seating areas and passes to regulate crowd movement, while designated parking zones have been identified in coordination with traffic and civil police for the convenience of attendees. The YAS Director appealed to the public for their support and cooperation to ensure the smooth conduct and grand success of the event.
