In a fresh attack unleashed this morning on Mongkot Chepu village allegedly by Tangkhul militants, at least one civilian has sustained shrapnel injuries.
The Ihang Bungpi Working Committee Sadar Hills Committee has stated that tangkhul militants deployed explosive devices and fired sustained volleys of gunfire indiscriminately toward civilian houses.
The committee stated that the explosions occurred in close proximity to a tuition center, triggering panic among schoolchildren.
Stating that such acts originating from the direction of Litan Police Station and its immediate vicinity is deeply alarming and unacceptable, the committee raises serious concerns regarding the role, possible complicity, or failure of forces stationed there.
The committee stated that such repeated attacks, originating in close proximity to a police station, expose a grave security lapse and cannot be tolerated under any circumstances.
The presence of militant bunkers and the continued use of automatic weapons and explosives against unarmed civilians, including children, demonstrate a complete lack of restraint and a deliberate attempt to escalate violence, it added.
The committee demands:
1. immediate deployment of additional neutral security forces, free from local bias, in sufficient strength across Mongkot Chepu, Litan, and all vulnerable Kuki villages to protect civilians and prevent further attacks.
2. Full accountability for the failure of forces at Litan Police Station and its vicinity; any lapses or complicity must be investigated and acted upon.
3. Urgent intervention by the Government of India through a time-bound, impartial, high-level investigation into all recent attacks on Kuki civilians, including the latest bombing and firing at Mongkot Chepu.
4. Swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of all Tangkhul militants responsible for these acts.
5. Immediate dismantling of all militant bunkers operating in the area and restoration of law and order.
The committee further urged authorities at every level to act without delay while adding that continued inaction or selective blindness will not be interpreted as neutrality but as complicity.
Every delay further endangers innocent lives, including those of schoolchildren, and exacerbates the humanitarian situation, it added.
The safety, dignity, and fundamental rights of Kuki civilians are non-negotiable and will not be compromised the release stated.
