
A villager was injured after Naga militant groups opened fire on civilians working in agricultural fields at Joujangtek village in Noney district on Thursday afternoon.
According to reports from the ground, the incident occurred around 12 noon when villagers were engaged in farming activities in their agricultural fields. The armed militants reportedly launched an attack on the unsuspecting villagers, triggering panic in the area.
Witnesses said heavy gunfire was heard during the attack, forcing villagers to flee their fields and seek safety.
One villager, identified as Nohjang of Joujangtek village, sustained gunshot injuries during the incident. Sources said he was shot in the arm and chest. His condition could not be immediately ascertained at the time of filing this report.
It may be noted that a unit of the 19 Assam Rifles is stationed at Joujangtek village, which is located along the Imphal–Khoupum Road in Noney district.
