Mizoram Introduces Different Fuel Saving Measures For Government Employees Including Every Wednesday as No Official Vehicle Day

The measures will come into effect from May 21

Following the Prime Minister’s appeal for fuel conservation and economic prudence as disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz continue to impact global oil and gas supplies, the Mizoram government has announced a series of temporary fuel conservation measures, including work-from-home arrangements for government employees, staggered office timings, and restrictions on official travel.

As per new measures issued by the General Administration Department on May 19,  20 percent of the workforce in each government department will work from home, except for departments dealing with medical and emergency services, water and power supply, transport, disaster response, and law and order duties.

The goverment directed the departments to prepare duty rosters to ensure uninterrupted public services.

The government has also introduced staggered office timings for departments in Aizawl to reduce traffic congestion and fuel consumption

One group of departments will function from 8:30 in the morning to 4:30 in the evening while another group will operate from 10:30 in the morning to 6:30 in the evening.

Every Wednesday will now be observed as “No Official Vehicle Day,” encouraging government employees to walk or use public transport.

The government also calls for greater use of video conferencing, reduction of VIP convoy sizes, restrictions on foreign and inter-state official travel, and electricity-saving practices in government offices.

The state government also advised departments to minimize ceremonial events and hospitality expenses during the period. Officials stated that the measures are temporary and intended to support national efforts to lessen the economic impact of the global crisis.

The measures will come into effect from May 21.
