The Kuki-Zo villages under the Chingdai area in Kaangpokpi district solemnly observed ‘Re-Awakening Day’ on Saturday at S. Phailengkot village, marking two years since their communities were devastated by violence.
The observance commemorated the destruction of several Kuki-Zo villages by the Arambai Tenggol on the same date in 2023. Despite inclement weather, villagers from nearby Twichin made the journey under pouring rain to participate in the event, showcasing a spirit of resilience and unity.
A key highlight of the observance was the unveiling of a memorial stone in honor of Nehmang Kipgen, who lost his life during the attacks on May 31, 2023. The symbolic gesture served as a poignant reminder of the tragedy and the enduring struggle of the community.
Adding to the significance of the day, the Chingdai Area Core Committee released a commemorative book titled “Muthim Akon Khovah”, which translates to “From Darkness to Light.” The publication documents the community’s experiences, resilience, and hopes for the future.
The event served not only as a memorial but also as a reaffirmation of the community’s strength and determination to rebuild from tragedy.
