In pursuit of the demand for Union Territory with legislature for the Kuki Zo people and to reaffirm non participation in Manipur government, Indigenous Tribal Leaders Forum will be organizing a peaceful public rally on January 14 in Churchandpur district.
On Monday, ITLF notified that the rally which will be held under the banner of Kuki Zo Council is scheduled to begin from 11 in the morning at two different locations, one from Sielmat ground and another from Koite ground after which the rally will conclude a peace ground.
“With President's Rule in Manipur ending in February 2026, and in view of the grave atrocities suffered by the Kuki-Zo people-including mass killings, destruction of homes and places of worship, and the displacement of over 40,000 people-the Kuki-Zo people cannot remain under the same administration” says ITLF.
Stating that Kuki-Zo people have demanded a Union Territory with Legislature from the Government of India. ITLF stated that participation in the formation of the Manipur Government is unjustifiable.
ITLF requested all sections of society-elders, leaders, students, women, and civil organisations to participate in large numbers in the proposed rally. The Kuki Zo body also requested schools and institutions to remain close on the day and shops located along the rally routes to remain closed from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
ITLF also requested all drinking water suppliers to provide water to participants of the rally.
