The Kuki-Zo Council (KZC) has extended the deadline of its ultimatums served to the government from October 10 to October 15 to allow further dialogue with the government.
KZC expresses its grave concern over the brutal killings of Domkhonei Touthang on 9 October 2026, reportedly by personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB), and Ngamminlen Haokip on 10 October 2026, reportedly by cadres of the NSCN-IM.
In a release issued on Monday KZC stated that these killings have further heightened tensions and deepened the sense of insecurity among the Kuki-Zo people.
In view of these tragic developments and the ensuing discussions and engagements with the Government, KZC has decided to extend the deadline of its ultimatum, the release added.
KZC reiterates that this extension should not be misconstrued as a retreat from its position or a weakening of its resolve. Rather, it reflects the Council’s willingness to pursue a meaningful resolution through dialogue while remaining firm on its demands for justice, security, and accountability.
KZC urges both the Government of Manipur and the Government of India to treat the matter with the utmost seriousness and take concrete, credible, and time-bound measures to address its concerns before the extended deadline.
The Council further calls upon both governments to give due consideration to the list of demands previously submitted by KZC and take appropriate action towards their fulfilment.
KZC stated that they expect a meaningful and positive response that reflects the seriousness of the situation and addresses the legitimate concerns of the Kuki-Zo people.
Stating that the council remains committed to safeguarding the rights, security, and interests of the Kuki-Zo people, the release stated that the council will determine its subsequent course of action based on the government’s response and the developments on the ground.
