The Kuki SoO groups of Assam have issued a clarification regarding their meeting with the Government of Assam on June 5, stating that the event was misrepresented by media outlets based in Manipur as a meeting involving the Kuki SoO groups of Manipur.
Representatives of the Kuki Revolutionary Army, Assam; United Kuki Defense Army; and Kuki Liberation Organisation/Kuki Liberation Army, Assam, issued a statement on Saturday strongly condemning the deliberate spread of false and unverified information by certain media outlets in Manipur.
The SoO groups stated that such irresponsible reporting not only misleads the public but also undermines the integrity of the ongoing peace efforts in Assam.
According to the statement, several Manipur-based media outlets—including Impact TV—as well as various social media platforms, have circulated false and misleading information regarding the talks held in Guwahati on June 5, 2025.
The SoO groups said, “These reports erroneously claim that the meeting involved the Kuki SoO Groups of Manipur and was linked to the situation in Manipur. We categorically state that the said meeting was in no way related to Manipur, nor did it involve any Kuki SoO Group from Manipur.”
The statement clarified that the meeting held in Guwahati was a routine extension meeting conducted exclusively between the Kuki SoO Groups of Assam and the Government of Assam. Such meetings have been conducted every six months since 2012, forming part of the regular biannual engagement in the ongoing peace process specific to Assam.
For over thirteen years, these extension meetings have been part of a consistent and structured dialogue mechanism pertaining solely to the Assam-based Kuki SoO Groups. The current meeting was a continuation of that process and had no bearing whatsoever on any affairs or developments in Manipur, the SoO groups clarified.
They also urged all concerned parties to refrain from politicizing or misrepresenting such meetings and called on media professionals to exercise journalistic responsibility by verifying facts on the ground before broadcasting or publishing sensitive information.
