The apex body of the Kuki community, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), has prohibited Kuki-Zo MLAs from participating in any manner in the formation of a new popular government in the state of Manipur.
The declaration by KIM comes just days after BJP state president A. Sharda briefed party MLAs on her recent discussions with central leaders concerning the ongoing crisis and the formation of a popular government in Manipur. On the same day, following the meeting, former Chief Minister of Manipur N. Biren Singh also told media persons that a popular government would soon be formed in the state.
The decision was taken during a joint meeting of Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM) along with its federating units—the Kuki Students' Organisation-General Headquarters (KSO-GHQ), Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi-General Headquarters (KKL-GHQ), Kuki Christian Leaders' Forum (KCLF), Kuki Women's Union-General Headquarters (KWU-GHQ), Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights-General Headquarters (KWOHR-GHQ), and Kuki Chiefs' Association-Manipur (KCA-M)—including all district units of Kuki Inpi and Heads of Departments, held on July 4, 2025, at the Conference Hall, KIM Secretariat, Bijang, Churachandpur.
In the meeting, it was also resolved that under no circumstances shall the Kuki-Zo people compromise their ancestral land, culture, identity, or their political, social, and economic rights.
KIM stated that the resolution reflects the collective political will and aspiration of the Kuki-Zo people and is binding upon all Kuki-Zo representatives and community organizations.
The apex body also advised all concerned to strictly adhere to the resolution in both letter and spirit.
