
A Kuki civilian woman, identified as Domkhonei Touthang, wife of Pu Lallenmang Touthang, died after being shot by personnel of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) stationed at Chassad in Kamjong district on Friday night.
According to information received, the incident occurred at around 9:35 p.m. on October 9, 2026, during a protest against the alleged arbitrary arrest and detention of Chassad Village Volunteers. The woman reportedly succumbed to her injuries at approximately 9:40 p.m. Domkhonei Touthang was a mother of five children—three boys and two girls.
The information provided by local sources alleges that IRB personnel were responsible for the shooting and also names the NSCN-IM in connection with the incident.
The incident has raised serious concerns over the safety of civilians amid tensions surrounding the arrest and detention of Chassad Village Volunteers.
