Kuki Apex Body Condemns Continued Attack on Kuki Villages in Ukhrul and Kamjong District

The Kuki Inpi Manipur, the apex body of the Kuki tribes, has strongly condemned what it describes as continued acts of aggression against Kuki-Zo communities in Ukhrul and Kamjong districts, alleging involvement of sections of the Tangkhul community.

In a statement issued today, the apex body termed the reported burning of Lanchah Kuki Village in Kamjong district as a “grave and deliberate escalation” requiring immediate accountability and intervention from authorities.

The Kuki Inpi also cited earlier incidents, including the burning of Gampal and Haijang villages, alleged armed attacks on Kuki settlements, and the killing of civilians. It claimed that despite these incidents, the Kuki community has exercised restraint to maintain peace and avoid escalation.

According to the statement, repeated attacks on civilian areas and destruction of property point to a troubling pattern that could further strain inter-community relations in the region. The organisation urged authorities and civil society to take a firm stand against such actions.

The statement further noted that the alleged burning of Lanchah village occurred at a time when the Nagaland Joint Christian Forum had called for an immediate cessation of hostilities, describing the incident as undermining ongoing peace efforts.

Additionally, the Kuki Inpi raised concerns over what it described as the denial of essential commodities to Kuki residents in Chassad and nearby areas, calling the situation a serious humanitarian issue and urging stakeholders to ensure access to basic necessities.

Reaffirming its commitment to peaceful coexistence, the organisation stated that its restraint should not be misinterpreted as weakness, adding that the community remains prepared to defend its rights and people if necessary.

The Kuki Inpi called on authorities to take immediate and effective steps to halt the violence, restore normalcy, and ensure accountability to prevent further incidents.
