The 2026 General Assembly of the Kuki Students’ Organisation (KSO) Churachandpurconcluded successfully at the remote village of L. Khaukual, bringing to the forefront pressing concerns over uneven development and lack of basic infrastructure in the region.
Held from March 13–14 under the theme “Be a Harbinger of Change in Societal Development,” the Assembly witnessed extensive deliberations on key socio-economic issues affecting rural communities in the district.
A major highlight of the Assembly was its strong stance on persistent development disparities across the state. Members emphasized the urgent need for equitable distribution of resources and development initiatives, particularly in remote and border areas.
The Assembly also endorsed the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that educational institutions in the district align with national standards and reforms.
Resolutions passed during the session underscored the critical need for improved rural infrastructure. Delegates raised serious concerns over the lack of electricity and mobile network connectivity in several villages, including L. Khaukual, which remains without power and communication facilities despite its location along the Imphal River near the India–Myanmar border.
According to data presented by KSO Churachandpur, multiple villages in the Sangaikot subdivision continue to face similar challenges. These include L. Khaukual, Saisom, G. Gamphajol, Selshi, Haopijang, T. Canaan, and S. Gelbung.
The Assembly noted that the continued lack of electrification in these areas contradicts the government’s 2018 declaration that all Indian villages had been electrified. In this regard, the organization urged authorities to take immediate steps to bridge the infrastructure gap.
In addition to infrastructure concerns, the Assembly resolved to organize literary meets, felicitation programmes, and initiatives promoting sustainable development in the region.
Reiterating alignment with the government’s vision of universal rural electrification, KSO Churachandpur called on concerned authorities to act swiftly in ensuring the delivery of essential services to underserved communities
