The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust (KOHUR) on Saturday strongly condemned the reported attack on Kuki women cultivators who were working in their agricultural fields in the Saikul Sub-Division of Kangpokpi district, describing the incident as a “grave and disturbing violation of basic human rights.”

According to a press statement issued by the organisation, the attack took place at around 2:30 pm on Saturday, March 7, 2026 in fields located between Tingpibung and Leplen Kuki villages under Saikul Sub-Division, where several women were reportedly engaged in routine cultivation activities.

KOHUR stated that the alleged assault on unarmed civilian women involved in agricultural work represents a serious breach of humanitarian norms and raises alarming concerns about the safety of tribal civilians in conflict-affected areas of Manipur.

“Targeting innocent women cultivators who are peacefully engaged in livelihood activities is morally reprehensible and constitutes a blatant violation of the fundamental principles of human dignity and the rule of law,” the organisation said.

The rights body expressed deep concern over what it described as the continuing vulnerability of tribal villagers, particularly women, who rely on farming for their survival amid the ongoing tensions in parts of the state.

Calling for immediate intervention by authorities, KOHUR demanded an urgent and impartial investigation into the reported incident to establish the facts and identify those responsible.

It also urged the government and security agencies to deploy adequate security forces in vulnerable agricultural zones to prevent further attacks on civilians.

The organisation further called for protection of farmers and villagers who depend on their fields for livelihood and insisted that those responsible must be brought to justice under relevant laws if the allegations are substantiated.

“Violence against civilians can never be justified under any circumstances. Such acts only deepen fear, mistrust and instability in already fragile regions,” KOHUR said.

Expressing solidarity with the victims and their families, the organisation urged authorities to act swiftly to ensure accountability and prevent further atrocities against innocent civilians.

The Kuki Organisation for Human Rights Trust, a human rights organisation registered under the Indian Registration Act, has held Special Consultative Status with the United Nations Economic and Social Council since 2016.
