The apex body of the Kukis, Kuki Inpi Manipur (KIM), has issued a strongly worded statement condemning the recent armed operation by paramilitary forces against the United Kuki National Army (UKNA), which allegedly led to the deaths of four members and the arrest of another.

In its Condemnation Statement issues from the KIM Secretariat and signed by Janghaolun Haokip, Information and Publicity Secretary, KIM expressed deep shock and indignation over the incident, stating that it has caused “profound pain and outrage among the Kuki-Zo community.”

KIM reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful dialogue and cooperation with the Government of India for an “enduring and honourable resolution” but cautioned that “continued targeted actions against our community severely undermine trust and jeopardize peace efforts.”

The apex body lamented that despite consistent calls for peace and restraint, such armed operations have “further wounded the sentiments and security of our people.” It criticised what it termed as “selective enforcement and failure to address armed aggression against the Kuki-Zo community,” warning that these acts “create grave injustice and long-term instability.”

Calling upon the authorities to exercise utmost sensitivity and impartiality, KIM urged for immediate steps toward de-escalation, justice, and restoration of peace. The statement underscored the resilience of the Kuki-Zo people amid “immeasurable hardship and violence” but asserted that their patience “should not be mistaken for weakness or acceptance of injustice.”

The statement concluded with a firm declaration:
“We cannot and will not accept actions that threaten our lives, dignity, and future.”

Meanwhile, in a joint and powerful statement, the Kuki Civil Societies of Churachandpur have vehemently condemned the killing of four (4) cadres of the United Kuki National Army (UKNA) during a counter-insurgency operation conducted by Indian security forces at daybreak on Tuesday in Khanpi Village, Henglep Sub-Division, Churachandpur District.

The joint statement—issued by the Kuki Inpi Churachandpur (KIC), Kuki Chief Association Churachandpur (KCA), Kuki Women Union Churachandpur (KWU), Kuki Women Organisation for Human Rights (KWOHR), Kuki Khanglai Lawmpi (KKL), and Kuki Students’ Organisation Churachandpur (KSO)—expressed deep sorrow and anguish over the tragic incident and extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

“We strongly condemn the senseless act that led to the loss of precious lives and urge both the Government security agencies and insurgent groups to refrain from further bloodshed,” the statement read. “Peaceful dialogue and reconciliation are the only paths forward to restore harmony in the district.”

The Kuki Civil Societies also called upon the Government of India to urgently initiate a political solution through a Separate Administration, asserting it as the only viable route to ensure lasting peace and normalcy in the region.

In honour of the departed souls, the organisations have declared a total shutdown in Churachandpur District on the day of the funeral of the four UKNA cadres. They also appealed to the public to join in district-wide mourning as a mark of respect.
