
The Government of Manipur on Thursday distributed benefits to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
A sum of Rs 2,420 was transferred to the respective accounts of IDPs for the purchase of mattresses and personal items. The total amount credited to nearly 19,000 IDPs is around Rs 32 crore.
The main event was graced by Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh in Imphal, along with other MLAs. The Chief Minister also interacted virtually with IDPs in Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts. In Churachandpur, the programme was organised at Torbung Prefabricated Relief Camp, Sadbhavna Mandap (Khominthang), Sadbhavna Mandap (Tuibong), and St. Joseph’s Relief Camp in Singngat.
During the virtual interaction with the Chief Minister of Manipur, Yumnam Khemchand Singh, the IDPs from Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts raised concerns mainly about hardships faced during health emergencies, students’ education, and water supply in the relief camps.
One IDP from Torbung Relief Camp informed the Chief Minister that during health-related emergencies, they faced inconvenience due to the non-availability of vehicles and ambulances in the camps.
After hearing the grievances of the IDPs, the Chief Minister assured them that necessary actions would be undertaken and that their problems would be looked into.
Respective MLAs were also present along with the IDPs. Churachandpur MLA L.M. Khaute praised the Chief Minister for interacting personally with the IDPs and listening to their concerns.
One IDP in Churachandpur, Vahneitheng Haokip, originally from Saikul under Kangpokpi district and currently staying at Torbung Relief Camp, Churachandpur, said, “Today we received an amount of Rs 2,420. I am very thankful and grateful to the Government of Manipur.”
