
Kangpokpi district has found a new sporting icon in Kimkim Khongsai, who has brought laurels to the region with her outstanding performance at the Yonex-Sunrise North East Zone Inter-State and Zonal Badminton Championship 2025, held recently in Tripura.
The 19-year-old shuttler from Chonjang village, Saikul subdivision, now residing at Kangpokpi Ward No. 3 after being displaced from Imphal following the ongoing ethnic conflicts, displayed remarkable grit and skill throughout the tournament.

Silver medal in Girls’ Under-19 Singles
Bronze medal in Girls’ Under-19 Doubles
Bronze medal in Mixed Doubles (Under-19 category)
Adding to her glittering performance, Kimkim, who is known as the Saina Nehwal of Sadar Hills Kangpokpi District, was also honoured with the prestigious title of “Most Amazing Player of the Tournament,” a recognition that sets her apart as one of the most promising young talents in the region.
Daughter of Janglim Khongsai and Hoichong Khongsai, Kimkim’s journey is one of discipline, hard work, and perseverance. Her success has not only brought pride to her family but has also made her a beacon of inspiration for the youth of Kangpokpi district and beyond.
The Kangpokpi Badminton Club extended its heartfelt congratulations, describing her achievement as a “testament to sheer dedication and unyielding commitment.” The Club further encouraged her to keep striving for greater heights as she now prepares for the National Level Championship in Haryana, where she will compete against the country’s finest young shuttlers.
