The Guite Road Chief Association on Friday alleged that the irresponsible conduct of M/s A. K. Shivhare Infra Pvt. Ltd. resulted in the collapse of the Tuivai Bridge at Khuanggin–Sinzawl (Chainage 120.850 km) on April 30.

Unequivocally condemning the alleged reckless and irresponsible conduct of M/s A. K. Shivhare Infra Pvt. Ltd., the association stated that on April 30, at approximately 10:30 PM, two fully loaded cement trucks belonging to the company attempted to cross the already fragile bridge simultaneously, in blatant violation of established safety advisories.

The Guite Road Chief Association issued a release on Friday, stating, “This act of gross negligence has destroyed a critical lifeline for our people.”

The association stated that it had repeatedly cautioned authorities and stakeholders regarding the unsafe condition of the bridge, with clear restrictions limiting loads to 20 MT and requiring one-by-one crossing of heavy vehicles.

It further stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Churachandpur had also issued a formal advisory on June 20, 2023, enforcing these restrictions, and that such violation by M/s A. K. Shivhare Infra Pvt. Ltd. is deliberate and inexcusable.

At a time when alternate supply routes remain critically constrained, this incident has effectively disrupted the movement of essential goods and people, exacerbating public hardship, the release stated.

The association demanded that M/s A. K. Shivhare Infra Pvt. Ltd. accept responsibility for the incident, immediately restore a temporary crossing for commuters within 24 hours, and arrange an alternative mechanism for the movement of heavy vehicles within 72 hours.

While cautioning that failure to comply would compel the GRCA to initiate appropriate action in the larger public interest, the association called upon NHIDCL and the contractor, M/s A. K. Shivhare Infra Pvt. Ltd., to urgently expedite completion of the new bridge, where only the substructure presently stands completed.

The association also urged the public to remain calm and extend full cooperation during the restoration process.
