Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur Losii Dikho said that the government is committed to delivering all possible justice to Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, adding that an investigation has already begun.

On Monday, Losii Dikho visited the family members of Thanlon MLA Vungzagin Valte, who passed away a week ago in New Delhi.

The Deputy Chief Minister also had a closed-door meeting with the Zomi Coordination Committee, a committee recently formed to take up matters regarding the death and burial of the late MLA.

After the meeting, Dikho told reporters that the priority of his visit was to meet the bereaved family. “Officially, the state government could not come, so we met in Delhi and provided all possible assistance to help them bring the body here,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Minister said he discussed certain matters with the Zomi Coordination Committee on how to move forward.

“They strongly demanded justice for the family and the community. We have taken serious note of their concerns and will carry this forward and meet again.
Today, they demanded only justice,” he said.

Regarding the burial of Vungzagin Valte, Dikho said, “We are requesting, but the family has no say in this because the committee has taken it over.”

Vungzagin Valte, being a public leader, committed his life to the people, Dikho said, adding that the government also wants a respectful burial of the mortal remains.

“We requested the committee regarding the burial, and they responded that they would think about it and consult with the people,” the Deputy Chief Minister said.

Regarding the cabinet expansion in Manipur, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “We cannot say at this point. It is not a normal situation in Manipur. On the people’s demand, the Central Government installed a popular government, but there are many difficulties.”

He added that the Union Home Minister would be visiting soon, and they are expecting the cabinet expansion any day now.

Regarding the district demand by the Zomi group, the Deputy Chief Minister said, “I have come to know that it is not a new demand, so every possibility is there. However, we will discuss it. The new government is not yet fully formed. That is a very serious demand, so it will require serious consideration from the government as well.”
