The Indian Army’s 19 Garhwal Rifles continued their welfare outreach in buffer zone areas along the Churachandpur–Bishnupur district border by organising a free medical camp at Zalenphai Village on Saturday.

The initiative was part of the Army’s ongoing humanitarian efforts for residents of border villages as well as Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) sheltering in makeshift prefabricated camps, even after the revocation of President’s Rule in Manipur.

During the medical camp, Army medical teams provided treatment for dental ailments, hearing-related issues, and general illnesses. Hundreds of villagers from nearby border areas, along with IDPs, availed themselves of free medical consultations and medicines.

While there were initial apprehensions among local residents that the revocation of President’s Rule could leave them vulnerable and compromise their security, people in the area now report a growing sense of safety and confidence. Residents expressed appreciation for the continued presence of the Army, which they say has not only ensured security but also carried out several welfare activities, including medical assistance and food-related support.

The Army’s sustained engagement has been widely welcomed by the local population, particularly those affected by displacement and prolonged insecurity in the region.
