In a major breakthrough in the fight against narcotics smuggling, the Government Railway Police (GRP) at Guwahati Railway Station recovered a significant quantity of suspected cannabis (ganja) during a surprise inspection on Tuesday.
Acting on a confidential tip-off, GRPS personnel conducted a search operation on Train No. 12423 DN (New Delhi Rajdhani Express) upon its arrival at Platform No. 1. The operation led to the seizure of 44 packets of suspected ganja, weighing a total of 65.5 kilograms, from the possession of four drug peddlers.
The accused had reportedly boarded the train at Dimapur Railway Station and were en route to New Delhi. All four individuals were immediately taken into custody, and legal proceedings have been initiated under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The arrested individuals have been identified Nongthombam Landson Singh (22), son of Nongthombam Joyshankar Singh, resident of Wankhei Yumlembam Leikei Brahmpur Aribam, Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur; Raireikhan Tungshang (25), son of the late Mingthing Tungshang, from Langdang village, Ukhrul district, Manipur; James Kamei (25), son of Munal Kamei, resident of Namdulong, Porompat, Imphal East, Manipur; Pukhrambam Kanta Singh (24), son of the late Pukhrambam Sanjit Singh, from Waheng Khumar Mayai Leikai, Wangoi, Bishnupur district, Manipur.
