A formal complaint seeking the registration of an FIR has been filed at the Kangpokpi Police Station against Ashang Kasar for allegedly disseminating misleading information during a televised discussion, which the complainant says has deeply hurt the sentiments of the bereaved families of two slain Kuki men in Kamjong District.

The complaint was submitted by Lungoulen Guite, General Secretary of Thadou Inpi Sadar Hills, who accused Kasar of spreading false narratives during a programme broadcast on Impact TV titled “Manung Hutna” (Episode 58: “After Meitei-Kuki, Naga-Kuki Next?”) aired on March 12 and later uploaded on YouTube.

According to the complaint, the statements made during the broadcast were “false and misleading” and have caused serious emotional distress to the families of the late Thengin Baite and Thangboimang Khongsai, whose killings recently triggered widespread outrage across the hill districts of Manipur.

The complainant alleged that the remarks not only misrepresented facts but also risked aggravating communal tensions at a time when the region remains highly sensitive following the killings.

In the complaint addressed to the Officer-in-Charge of the police station, Guite urged authorities to register a case against Kasar under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. These include Section 196, which deals with promoting enmity, hatred or ill-will between different communities, and Section 353(2) relating to the dissemination of false or misleading information through digital or electronic means.

Guite further submitted the link to the televised discussion as supporting evidence and appealed to the authorities to initiate “immediate and appropriate legal action” against the accused to ensure accountability.

He also requested that a copy of the FIR be furnished to the complainant and that he be kept informed of the progress of the investigation.

The complaint comes amid growing anger within sections of the Kuki-Zo community following the brutal killing of the two men earlier this week, with several organisations demanding justice and cautioning against what they describe as attempts to distort facts surrounding the incident.
