In a decisive push towards grassroots economic transformation, a six-day Entrepreneurship Development Workshop on Micro-Financing and Business Incubation for Tribal Entrepreneurs concluded with resounding success at Kanggui Christian College, Kangpokpi. Held from March 14 to 19, 2026, the intensive programme brought together aspiring tribal entrepreneurs and stakeholders under a unified vision of converting local potential into global opportunity.

Jointly organised by the Tribal Research Institute (TRI), Department of Tribal Affairs and Hills, Government of Manipur, in collaboration with the Research and Development Cell (RDC), Oasis College, Kangpokpi, and supported by the Ministry of Tribal Affairs, Government of India, the workshop marked a significant intervention in strengthening entrepreneurship at the grassroots level. The inaugural session was held on March 14 at LNC Hotel, Kangpokpi.

The valedictory programme, compered by Kimneihoi Sitlhou, featured Dr. Onkholun Haokip, Coordinator, RDC, as Rapporteur. A standout moment of the event was the participants’ sharing of experiences, reflecting the deep and transformative impact of the workshop.

Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Kimboi Singsit described the initiative as an “eye-opening experience,” underscoring the urgent need to harness local resources while expanding market reach beyond regional confines. She stressed that entrepreneurship thrives on teamwork, collaboration, and resilience in the face of challenges.

Echoing similar sentiments, Pahhoi emphasised that innovation and a positive mindset are at the core of entrepreneurial success, asserting that attitude often outweighs technical skills. She further highlighted the critical role of trust-building and strong relationships in sustaining business growth.

Rev. Sheikhohao Khongsai expressed deep appreciation to the organisers, noting that the workshop significantly broadened his perspective on entrepreneurship.

Adding a powerful personal dimension, Thangcha Guite, an internally displaced person (IDP), shared how the training reshaped his outlook. As a small entrepreneur supporting his family, he found the insights on accessing bank loans and managing finances particularly impactful.

Delivering the valedictory address, Rangnamei Rang Peter, IAS, Director, Tribal Affairs & Hills / TRI, Manipur, lauded the successful collaboration between TRI and RDC, Oasis College. Calling for a shift from traditional practices to modern enterprise models, he urged participants to focus on value addition and innovation.

Stressing the importance of visibility in today’s competitive landscape, he remarked, “Be excel and findable, then banker will run after you,” encouraging entrepreneurs to leverage digital platforms for wider reach. He further advised participants not to depend solely on government support, but to build sustainable ventures rooted in local strengths.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Helun Hangshing, Secretary, Board of Management, Oasis College, who acknowledged the contributions of the Director TRI, resource persons, organising team, and participants. Certificates along with TA/DA were distributed to around 50 participants.

The workshop stands as a strong testament to the growing momentum for tribal entrepreneurship, equipping participants with practical skills in business incubation, financial literacy, and enterprise development. More importantly, it reinforced a powerful message—innovation, local resource utilisation, and self-reliance are key to sustainable progress and economic empowerment among tribal communities.
