
Chief Minister of Manipur Yumnam Khemchand on Saturday said the construction work of National Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West is expected to be completed by December this year.
The chief minister made the statement t while visiting the under-construction campus of the National Sports University at Koutruk in Imphal West district and reviewing the progress of the project.
Informing that around 1,300 students are expected to be enrolled at the university Khamechand described the National Sports University as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream project and thanked him for establishing India’s first central university dedicated exclusively to sports education in Manipur.
Vice-Chancellor of National Sports University Daljit Singh Chaudhary said the Chief Minister inspected different blocks of the campus and reviewed the quality and pace of the construction work.
The vice chancellor informed that the Chief Minister also directed concerned officials to expedite water supply arrangements and other pending infrastructure works to ensure timely completion of the project.
The National Sports University offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programmes in physical education, sports coaching, sports science and sports management and is presently functioning from its temporary campus at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex.
Local BJP MLA Heikham Dingo Singh and university officials accompanied the chief minister during the visit to the university site.
