The Churachandpur Meitei United Committee (CMCU) has urged the Governor of Manipur and the Chief Secretary to ensure the prompt and organized resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their respective places, along with adequate support and security measures to facilitate their safe and dignified return.

CMCU submitted a memorandum to the Governor and the Chief Secretary, placing several demands. These include the sanction of educational packages for IDP students, management of relief camps by IDPs, livelihood support through employment, and temporary shelter arrangements for Meitei IDPs from Churachandpur. The committee demanded that these issues be addressed within five days.

Another key concern raised in the memorandum was the issue of documentation for Churachandpur IDPs.

CMCU requested the sanctioning of a comprehensive educational package for IDP students enrolled in both government and private schools and colleges. The committee stated that this would help ensure uninterrupted education despite the displacement challenges.

Additionally, CMCU proposed that relief camp management be entrusted to a committee of IDPs themselves, allowing their concerns to be addressed more empathetically and effectively. The committee claimed that the current local relief committees managing the camps are failing to fully address the needs and grievances of the displaced population.

The memorandum also highlighted the difficulties faced by Churachandpur IDPs in obtaining essential documents, such as birth certificates and domicile certificates. CMCU alleged that concerned officials often delay or refuse to accept their applications and requested that the documentation process be streamlined and expedited.

The committee further resolved that each displaced Meitei family from Churachandpur be provided with appropriate government employment opportunities under a dedicated livelihood program, based on the skills of the displaced persons.

In light of the prolonged displacement of Meitei families, CMCU appealed for urgent temporary shelter arrangements at Phougakchao Ikhai in Bishnupur District, to be coordinated jointly by the Government of India and the Government of Manipur. They also demanded that each of the approximately 2,000 displaced families be allotted around 0.04 acres of land, where temporary shelter homes should be constructed to provide dignified living conditions until a safe return to Churachandpur is feasible.
